A message of hope and human connection
Najee Lee is a 30 year old harmonica player from Miami Florida, best known by his stage name, Kemetic Bluez.
He was named after a famous saxophone player, but never played an instrument until a younger cousin gave him a toy: a harmonica she had bought at a garage sale. He quickly realized that this ‘toy’ was extremely challenging to play. His initial arrogance was replaced by curiosity and imagination. Najee was hooked.
Najee embarked on a journey to learn the instrument and found harmonica masters: Adam Gussow, Jason Ricci, Chris Michalek and Jon Gindick on Youtube.
A two year job as the overnight Captain of Security at an empty 20,000 sq. ft. facility gave him hours each night to practice and to expand his repertoire from Blues to Country, R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel and Jazz.
His influences include harp players such as Brenden Powers, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Mussellwhite and Sonny Terry. The phrasing and dynamics of guitar players such as Eric Clapton and Joe Bonamassa has also heavily influenced Najee’s style, which can be described as soulful, intuitive and robust.
In an age of technological advancement and artificial intelligence, Najee aspires to touch the hearts and minds of millennials, adding a human element back into both music and human interaction. And once you hear him play, you realize that his optimistic spirit and unstoppable drive will communicate his message of hope and human connection to the heart and souls of tomorrow.
